First MLB Player Suspended for Steroids

Devil Rays' CF Alex Sanchez tested positive for steroids and was suspended for 10 days. Yanno, I always thought his 4 career homers were a bit inflated for this guy. It was obvious something was suspicious, and I'm glad that the MLB cracked down on this guy. MLB can finally put an asterisk on all the offensive records this guy is sure to shatter, and we can all get back to watching normally-sized craniums hit normal HR totals, like Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa. We can also thank the man we'd all trust to uphold our own reputations- Jose Canseco- for bringing us his open and honest accounts, all for the low-low price of $15.57. Isn't it nice to find a guy who we can completely trust and who isn't just out for money? Don't you love seeing the real hard-core steroid abusers caught and harshly punished?

I mean, I know I like seeing all that happen. Just let me know when it does.

4 career home runs is probably the reason for his steroid use. If you were that bad and saw what steroids was doing for others you'd probably consider it. Honestly Jay, we dont know crap about who uses steroids in baseball. We just dont know. Jose Canseco probably knows more than we do. I think its good that they are actually doing something and just because some no name guy who sucks uses them and got caught doesnt mean others wont. Just chill out and wait. Everyone will have their chance.

fair enough, TC. However, Jose Canseco never had a good reputation around baseball, many experts think he needs the money, and the public doesn't want Sanchez being tested, they want Bonds, Sosa, etc. Additionally, MLB's reputation and revenue could take a serious hit if their testing continues to be lenient. ESPN's Peter Gammons has called it a step in the right direction, with a lot of room for improvement.

Suspending Sanchez seems kind of random because he's not someone like Barry Bonds, who is huge for baseball. People go to games to watch Bonds hit home runs (Alex Sanchez...not so much). Granted, the guy can steal bases and the home run isn't his only offensive ammo. But if Bonds tests positive, it won't only hurt his reputation and his team, but it will be bad for baseball in general. MLB's reputation is going to take a serious hit if they are lenient, but I think it will be a complete uproar if they have to suspend Bonds and they didn’t want him to be the first one.
