MVP is most valuable player to the team, and the Yankees have a stacked team through and through. If Jeter doesn't produce someone else will. Reyes is a damn fine leadoff hitter and has everything to do with the Mets scoring in the first inning for 8-consecutive games in August... 2-hole is easier to hit in also.
Good pt about reyes... but what about when Matsui, Sheffield, & Cano were hurt and A-Rod was whiffing like nuts? The Yanks only had Damon and Giambi left. POSADA was batting 4th. The mets have lo duca, wright, delgado, green and beltran...you cant say theyre not stacked also. Jeter carried the yanks during the months when guys went down!
Jeter didn't carry them by himself... lets face it Cabrera made a huge difference and Bernie is showing he can still put wood on the ball. Additionally, at season's end Abreu will have been in rf for 60 games... his bat and production since movin two hours east is impressive. Delgado struggled for awhile, Green isn't putting up any good power, and Beltran can't hit for shit at home... I'll admit that LoDuca carried us through Aug, after he dumped his wife, and wright was solid in the beginning of the year, but that is not the same production as the players surrounding jeter.
jeter is one of the greatest players of all time. no one who knows anything about the true esesnce of baseball can disagree with that. it comes down to WHO CAN WIN GAMES AND WHO YOU WANT MAKING THE PLAY OR AT THE PLATE WHEN THE GAME IS ON THE LINE. Jeter is the best. the guy on ESPN used reyes' .406 BA with 2 out and RISP, jeter's late and tight statistics are unreal (mike and the mad dog use them all the time, its something like .475), and he has more of an intangible feel for the game than anyone in recent memory. it also doesnt hurt that he has one of the best all around statistical numbers, and has a real good shot at winning the batting title. and oh yea, they were without 3 of their top 6 hitters for a long time, and during that time a-rod was batting like .200... any idea why they didnt fall apart?
Welcome to All-Star Blog, the survival story of a Yankees fan living in Boston and the daily struggle to exist in Sox Nation.
After writing for the Hartford Courant and several smaller publications, as well as a stint with ESPN Comm, my recent move to Beantown led me to shift my blog's focus. Please look around, and feel free to share your own stories. Because love it or hate it, the Yanks-Sox feud will never be settled. Until the Sox admit defeat.

Take Jeter...it's all down to either stolen bases or clutch hitting, and any team should want the clutch hitting first (jeter does have speed anyway)
