Let's Go....Mets?

I'm basically opening myself up to get bashed by all comers here- even Yankees and Red Sox fans will unite to hate on this post. I need to say it though- the NY Mets are the most appealing franchise in NY to me, right now. First of all, don't even get me started on the Knicks (when was the last time you saw them make headlines). Second, I love the Yankees, I love their roster, I love the Stadium and all its fans...but there's just something missing. Then it hit me- the Yanks don't have that blend of lovable home-grown talent and a few bright stars any longer. Bringing back Tino, Mike Stanton, and Joe Girardi only made me realize that I miss the days when the Yanks had fan favorites who weren't future Hall of Famers. Sure, compare lineups and anybody would take the '05 squad, but they're becoming harder to love purely and simply. Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Bernie- these are the names that really make me swell up with Yankee pride. A-Rod, Sheff, Giambi- I LOVE them, but there's something...missing. The Mets have that blend right now. With young fan-faves such as David Wright, Jose Reyes, and Eric Valent teamed with older, lovable veterans Piazza and Pedro, these Mets have a refreshing sense about them (helped, of course, by going 6-0 after an 0-5 start!). Throw in Carlos Beltran, a young, charismatic centerfielder with Playstation stats, and the Mets are creating a team to be loved. I say, bring Alfonso Soriano back to the Yanks, re-sign Andy Pettitte, and give us Yankees to love for 6-yr, $24 million stretches instead of 2-yr, $20 million marquee names. I'm not the first to think it, just the first to admit it.

HA!

have i not already said this about the yankees? you gotta go with the "team theme" such as the patriots the past years and the red sox last year. there was team chemistry and they werent just a bunch of expensive pieces put together. a-rod isnt a yankee. jeter is. goodluck winnin with them.

I definitely agree there is something missing from the Yankees, but TC, don't tell me that the Red Sox are any better. You want expensive pieces put together? Look at last year's Sox roster...how many of them can you call home-grown talent? Not to mention they had the highest payroll of any team ever to win a World Series.

Well Sox fans like TC can't talk at all. Theo Epstien, though I love him and wish I was him, upon hearing the term "farm system" replied that he "didn't speak chinese". The issue is that some talent that comes into ny become "yankees" quickly (like matsui, o'neil, sheffield) and others never do (a-rod, giambi). Some people just cant handle the pressure of the biggest sports market in the world (they play poorly or even if they play well they aren't liked). But thats what you get when you buy talent. The way the yankees build "home town heros" is to farm them or to get players when they are in the early or early-mid stages of their carreers and to lock them up. Bottom line: Yankees fans will all feel better when the yanks start playing .650 ball which we all know (yes TC even you) is inevitable with this roster.

p.s. TC "team theme" doesnt work most of the time, there was a big article about that in the Science Times about 3 weeks ago, learn to read.

who would you rather see win? 25 guys who hate each other or 25 guys that are always joking with each other, having fun playing a game and having this attitude and joy of the game with a high level of comradery? i know they are two extremes and im not saying the yankees all hate each other, but even that article says the "Yankees do not exhibit the kind of passionate team cohesiveness" (let me finish the sentence for him) LIKE THE SOX DO. id rather watch and root for guys that have fun and goof around even if studies and stats prove they dont do as well.

this is the most ridiculous comment: "who would you rather see win". You "rather" see win the team in your home town or that you owe allegance too. And apparently more people want to see the Yankees win than any other team because the have the highest ticket sales, global merchandizing sales, tv sales, etc, you get the point. Im not sying this is right or fair, but the "who would you rather see win?" is just a stupid arguement and comment.
